Biography:
Juilliard graduate Michael Slattery has been soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival, and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s at Carnegie Hall. For his UK debut in February 2005, with the BBC Concert Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall in London, he sang the title role in Bernstein’s Candide, a role he premiered in Rome and later covered for the New York Philharmonic.
Michael sang his first Mozart Requiem with Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Also in LA he has performed in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde directed for the concert stage by Peter Sellars, and Philip Glass\’s Akhnaten, under the baton of John Adams.
Singing the title role in Monteverdi’s Orfeo at the Chatelet Theatre in 2006, Michael returned to Paris, the city where he made his European debut in a concert dedicated to the music of Leonard Bernstein with June Anderson, Kim Criswell, Lauren Bacall and the French National Orchestra. He has also sung the role of Bastien in Mozart’s Bastien und Bastienne at the Cité de la Musique.
Michael’s recordings include Handel’s Saul with René Jacobs and Concerto Köln for Harmonia Mundi, Alessandro Scarlatti’s The Cecilian Vespers with Nicholas McGegan and the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, and Secret and Divine Signs: Music of Craig Urquhart, both for Avie.
Outside his musical activities, Michael devotes much of his spare time to painting. Four of his pieces have been published in the French art magazine ORAOS.
