Biography:

Sergej Bolkhovets is a distinguished Swedish conductor and a dedicated pedagogue with an extensive previous international career as a violinist.

Bolkhovets has conducted orchestras and at opera houses such as the Bavarian State Opera, Tonhalle Zürich, Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, Swedish Royal Opera and Gothenburg Opera. He has furthermore collaborated with several Swedish orchestras, such as the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestras of Malmö, Helsingborg, Gävle, Norrlandsoperan, Norrköping, Folkoperan and Dalasinfoniettan and the Västerås Sinfonietta.

In the United Kingdom, Bolkhovets has conducted the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata, Hallé Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Opera, London Sinfonietta and Red Note Ensemble.

Early on in his conducting career, Bolkhovets held the positions of Assistant Conductor at the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Kapellmeister at the Gothenburg Opera. He has also held Conducting Fellowship positions at the Verbier Festival, the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, with Garry Walker being his most influential conducting mentor, along with B. Tommy Andersson at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. He initiated his conducting studies at the Hochschule für Musik ‘Franz Liszt’ Weimar, and has undertaken numerous master classes with Paavo and Neemi Järvi, among others.

As a violinist, Bolkhovets studied at the Hochschule für Musik ‘Hanns Eisler’ in Berlin with Ulf Wallin and Tabea Zimmermann, as well as at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm with Joakim Svenheden. As a soloist, he has performed over 20 violin concertos. As an orchestra musician, he has played in many leading orchestras, including the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the Deutsche Sinfonieorchester Berlin and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Bolkhovets has also worked as a guest concertmaster with the Royal Swedish Opera, Frankfurt Opera, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestras of Gothenburg, Stockholm, Gävle, Norrlandsoperan, Norrköping and Helsingborg, the Orquestra do Algarve and Camerata Nordica.
