Biography:
Valerie Whitney serves as Assistant Professor of Horn and as Brass Area Coordinator at the University of British Columbia. She appears regularly with many of the region’s orchestras including those in Vancouver, Victoria and Seattle. She presents frequent solo and chamber performances around the BC Lower Mainland area, with these engagements taking her as far as China and South Korea, and was the featured artist for the 2022 Sonic Boom Festival with Vancouver Pro Musica. Valerie is a founding member of the Vancouver Brass Orchestra, as well as One, Two, Trio, a brass trio dedicated to enhancing brass music education around Metro Vancouver.
Prior to her appointment at UBC, Valerie performed across the midwestern United States for over a decade, with regular appearances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, theMilwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and Grand Rapids Symphony, among others.
She held the positions of third horn in the South Bend Symphony and fourth horn in the Lake Forest Symphony and served as hornist of the acclaimed Fifth House Ensemble from 2013–16.
Valerie holds a DMA from Northwestern University and is a graduate of Northwestern University (MM) andWheaton College (BM).
